This sculpture, titled Power, portrays a dark-toned (ink-like) Guanyin, standing with grace and serenity upon undulating lotus leaves. The Goddess of Mercy appears tranquil and divine, holding a wish-fulfilling jewel (cintamani) and a ruyi scepter, symbolizing blessings, obstacle removal, and spiritual fulfillment. Her robes flutter gently as if carried by the sea breeze, suggesting her arrival from across the waves to rescue sentient beings. Behind her, a delicate, semi-translucent lotus leaf unfolds like an aureole, echoing the movement of ocean waves and enhancing the divine aura of the Bodhisattva.

Guanyin, known for her boundless compassion, is one of the most widely venerated bodhisattvas across Asia. The Amitabha Buddha atop her crown symbolizes her spiritual lineage as the "child of Amitabha" and her mission to continue his vow of universal salvation.

The artist draws inspiration from the image of the White-Robed Guanyin, a form that appeared in Chinese scriptures as early as the 8th century. Characterized by soft, feminine features, a white veil over the head, and a flowing white robe, this figure is gentle yet dignified, embodying both spiritual resolve and maternal grace. This is the form most familiar to everyday worshippers and considered by modern scholars as the most localized, representative depiction of Guanyin in East Asian visual culture.

The rich green jade used in this sculpture is brought to life through expert carving techniques that reveal layers of varying translucency and texture. Light dances across her garments and the lotus leaf, producing a visual rhythm of stillness and strength. The entire composition evokes a sense of peace, reverence, and inner empowerment—a quiet yet undeniable force. It is this deep emotional resonance that gives the work its name: Power.
